Matrix partners with Expro to develop new incident investigation process

Matrix provides training and support services to help organisations manage many major forms of operational risk. Founded by former senior police officers in 2009, the company conducts independent investigations worldwide and works with organisations across a variety of sectors to provide incident investigation training courses and management services. Its incident investigation toolkit courses are IOSH-approved and have attracted attention from an international audience. The principles and methodologies from these courses were used as a foundation for Expro’s new Intelligent Investigation process.

Senior members of the Matrix team have worked closely with Expro personnel to integrate Intelligent Investigation with the company’s existing root cause analysis (RCA) tool, in order to streamline and improve the organisation’s overall incident reporting, recording and investigation process. Key to the global system roll-out was the appointment and training of 12 Expro Intelligent Investigation champions. The champions, who represent various aspects of Expro’s business, are responsible for cascading their training and knowledge to colleagues throughout the company.

Ian Robb, HSE & Service Quality Director, Expro said: “Our objective was to further enhance the initial investigation and evidence gathering part of our existing process. Matrix worked with us to develop a bespoke and interactive training module that complemented our existing tool. This was supported by targeted training for personnel who had been identified as suitable lead investigators.

“Within a fairly ambitious timeframe, Expro became fully self-sufficient with our new Intelligent Investigation champions capable of delivering training to their colleagues. Delegates’ feedback to date has been very positive.”

Craig Smith, training manager, Matrix Risk Control said: “It has been exciting and rewarding to work with Expro to develop an incident investigation process that is tailored to the company’s specific needs.

“A robust approach to incident investigation management is of vital importance, as it allows organisations to learn valuable lessons from near misses and seemingly minor incidents, thus preventing major incidents and improving overall health and safety performance.

“The proactive development of the Intelligent Investigation process demonstrates Expro’s commitment to creating a responsible and positive health and safety culture for its staff members, contractors and clients.”

Matrix Risk Control provides training and specialist support services in relation to incident recording and investigation. Established by former senior police officers in 2009, its team of 15 supports clients internationally and is headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland.
