Every year, thousands of young people fill a rucksack and leave home for the experience of a lifetime. A period spent travelling abroad is supposed to be an amazing experience. You meet new people, travel to new countries, try things you never thought you’d do, and generally have the time of your life!

However every year, thousands of travellers find themselves in situations they didn’t anticipate. Whether it be theft, mugging, violence, drugs, harassment or even kidnapping and natural disasters, the result can be financial loss, minor or serious injury, and in some rare cases, even death.

The saddest part is that often, these incidents are completely preventable.

Here at Matrix Risk Control, we’ve used our vast experience in crisis response and travel safety to develop a course specifically for young people going on gap years or placements abroad.

Matrix instructor John Richardson said “I’ve been lucky enough to travel to a lot of amazing places all over the world, with family, friends and by myself. Because of this, I’m well aware of many of the dangers that can confront travellers. However I’m also aware that many young people go away on their first major trip with no idea what may face them. We want to make sure they go with the knowledge and awareness to avoid these dangers, or – when disaster does strike – know how to deal with them.”

This new one day course will cover topics such as planning, packing, travelling, medical issues, advice for on location and how to handle dangers and disaster. The course is aimed at 16-30 year olds who are planning an extended adventure or who are undertaking a work placement abroad. However all age groups are welcome.

The first course is scheduled to run on Wednesday 13 July 2016. Full details of the course can be found here and bookings can be made hereIf more details are required please contact the Matrix team directly at info@matrixriskcontrol.com or john.richardson@matrixriskcontrol.com, or on 01224 737272.
